Where Horses Meet the Sea.
Step into the wild landscapes of the Camargue for an exclusive four-night photography experience centred around one of Europe’s most iconic animals the Camargue horse.
Based in the historic town of Aigues-Mortes, this experience is designed for photographers who want to go beyond simply photographing horses. Across seven dedicated photography sessions, we’ll work with the unique light, landscapes and atmosphere of the Camargue, creating images that capture both the character of the horses and the wild spirit of the place they call home.
From misty mornings and golden evening light to reflections, open wetlands and dramatic skies, every session offers a different creative opportunity. We’ll also enjoy exclusive private access for a sunrise photography session with the Camargue’s famous flamingos, giving us the opportunity to work with these striking birds as the first light transforms the wetlands.
Alongside the photography, there’s time to experience the character of Aigues-Mortes, explore its medieval surroundings and enjoy the food, atmosphere and slower pace of life that make this corner of southern France so distinctive.
With personalised tuition and creative guidance throughout, this is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the Camargue and create photographs that feel as wild, atmospheric and distinctive as the landscape itself.
Wildness Shaped by Water and Light.
Stretching across the wetlands and waterways of southern France, the Camargue is a landscape unlike anywhere else in Europe. Here, horses move through open marshes and salt flats, cattle roam beneath vast skies and flamingos gather across shimmering lagoons. It is a place where water, light and wildlife are constantly changing the character of the scene.
The Camargue horses are inseparable from this landscape. Shaped by generations of life in the wetlands, they have an unmistakable presence powerful, free-spirited and completely at home among the water, reeds and open plains. Photographing them is about more than simply finding a beautiful horse; it is about understanding how to place that animal within the landscape and tell a bigger story.
The light here can transform everything. Soft morning mist, reflections across still water, dramatic skies and the warm glow of evening can turn an ordinary moment into something extraordinary. Across our photography sessions, we’ll explore how to use these changing conditions creatively, working with perspective, composition, light and atmosphere to create images with greater depth and emotion.
I’ll share my approach to photographing wildlife in a way that looks beyond the obvious image encouraging you to slow down, observe what is happening around you and make creative decisions rather than simply react to the moment.
This is about experiencing the Camargue as a photographer: seeing the relationship between the horses and their environment, finding beauty in the unexpected and creating photographs that capture not just the animal, but the wild character of this remarkable landscape.
AUTHENTIC CAMARGUE EXPERIENCE
Our Medieval Base: Aigues-Mortes
Throughout the experience, our base will be in the historic town of Aigues-Mortes, surrounded by the landscapes, waterways and wildlife of the Camargue. With its medieval character, narrow streets and relaxed southern French atmosphere, it provides a wonderful place to return to between our photography sessions.
Each day will be shaped around the best light and wildlife opportunities. We’ll head out early when the landscape is at its most atmospheric, with time between sessions to return to Aigues-Mortes, explore the town or simply enjoy the slower pace of life.
There will also be opportunities to discover the character of Aigues-Mortes itself, from its medieval streets and historic architecture to its cafés, restaurants and local atmosphere. Staying here gives the experience a genuine sense of place and allows us to experience the Camargue beyond the photography.
After each session among horses, flamingos, wetlands and wide-open landscapes, we can come together to look through the day’s images, talk photography and share stories from the field.
