THE LAND OF THE MIDNIGHT SUN

Photograph Puffins Beneath the Midnight Sun

On the remote Icelandic island of Grímsey, discover how to create powerful, story-driven wildlife photography beneath the endless light of the Arctic summer.

Perched on the Arctic Circle and surrounded by the wild waters of the North Atlantic, Grímsey is home to around 200,000 Atlantic Puffins, dramatic sea cliffs and one of Europe's most extraordinary wildlife spectacles. During summer, the sun barely sets, providing hours of beautiful golden light and exceptional photographic opportunities.

Grímsey is one of my favourite places to photograph. Each visit brings unforgettable encounters with puffins, Arctic Terns, Red-necked Phalaropes, native Icelandic horses and humpback whales, all set against a landscape that feels wonderfully remote and untouched.

This expedition is about far more than photographing puffins. It's about slowing down, understanding wildlife behaviour and using the unique light of the Midnight Sun to create images with depth and meaning. With a maximum of just five photographers, plenty of time in the field and personalised tuition throughout, you'll leave with stronger images, greater confidence and memories of one of the world's most remarkable wildlife destinations.

  • “This trip was on my bucket list for so long, especially because of the puffins. As soon as we arrived, I knew the next 6 days were going to be awesome. I felt like I was in photography heaven. Thanks to the flawless organisation of the group leaders David and Kev and their unearthly friendship, and of course for the group itself... See you someday somewhere...”

  • "We have just returned from a six-day photography experience on Grimsey Island, and what fun it was! Not just a great wildlife spectacle but also lots of laughter and good humour aided and abetted by the organisers, David and Kevin. Turning to the wildlife, there were the expected masses of puffins but also kittiwakes, fulmars, guillemots, razorbills, eiders, skuas, kittiwakes, redshanks, phalaropes, turnstones, ring plovers, snow buntings, oyster catchers and so much more. We were also fortunate to see the young of eiders, kittiwakes, phalaropes, snow bunting, redshanks and terns. Overall, an excellent holiday which we shared with an amazing group of fellow photographers – well organised and very enjoyable. We have returned home with a wealth of photographs and many happy memories.”
