BRITAIN’S MOST REMOTE INHABITED ISLAND

Photograph Puffins Like Never Before

Six days on Britain's most remote inhabited island learning how to create powerful, story-driven puffin photography with one of the world’s leading puffin specialists.

There are few places in Britain quite like Fair Isle. Set between Orkney and Shetland, this small and remote island is a place of dramatic cliffs, wild seas, endless horizons and one of the most beautiful puffin colonies in the country. Its sense of isolation, natural beauty and untamed character create an experience that feels far removed from the pressures of everyday life.

Fair Isle has captured my imagination for many years. Every time I return, I'm inspired by the island's ever-changing light, breathtaking landscapes and incredible wildlife encounters. The island offers endless opportunities for photographers who want to immerse themselves in nature and create meaningful images.

This workshop is about far more than simply photographing puffins. It's about slowing down, observing behaviour and using light, composition and storytelling to create images with meaning and impact. With a small group and plenty of time in the field, you'll enjoy a rewarding photographic experience while developing both your skills and creative vision.

Why Join Me On Fair Isle?

Choosing the right workshop leader can make all the difference to your wildlife photography experience. As the author of Puffins: Life On The Atlantic Edge, I've spent many years photographing and studying puffins, developing a deep understanding of their behaviour and the best ways to capture them creatively. Alongside my work in the field, I've judged more than 50,000 competition images, giving me a unique insight into what helps photographs stand out and connect with viewers.

As a multi-award-winning wildlife photographer, I'm passionate about sharing both my knowledge and experience with others. My approach goes beyond camera settings and technical advice, focusing on light, composition, storytelling and behaviour to help you create more meaningful and engaging images. With the workshop limited to just six photographers, you'll benefit from plenty of personal attention, one-to-one guidance and support throughout our time on Fair Isle, ensuring you get the most from every photographic opportunity.

  • “The Best!!! Kevin was attentive, caring and would make sure each one of us was ok. He gave each one individual photographic help and tuition and made sure we all had a turn in the best position for a shot. He didn't take his camera out until the fifth day although he brought his bag with him every day. We would definitely like to travel with him again"

  • “What a wonderful trip we had with Kevin in the Shetlands. The group was lively and friendly and Kevin made sure that he spent time with each of us to help us be more creative. Loved every minute and wouldn’t hesitate to sign up for another workshop with him in the future”

  • "Kevin was a patient and inspiring guide. His passion for wildlife photography and his knowledge was inspiring. He offered fantastic advice and no question was daft. It was an amazing experience seeing and photographing the mountain hares and I highly recommend booking a workshop with Kevin. Thank you again Kevin!”

  • “The Skomer Island photography workshop was a perfect blend of learning, photography, natural beauty, and camaraderie. Rachel and Kevin's hospitality, combined with their extensive knowledge and the sheer beauty of Skomer Island, made this experience truly magical. I wholeheartedly recommend this workshop to anyone passionate about photography and nature. I assure you, you will return with not just beautiful photographs but memories that will last a lifetime”

    Rose - Skomer Photography Workshop

  • “ I booked this trip versus other similar trips as I’d been with Kevin before and knew of his passion for Puffins and The Shetlands from his book. It was also a part of the world I wanted to explore with someone who knew the lay of the land. The trip exceeded my expectations at every level in terms of the locations and the photo opportunities. I have managed to get some (for me) awesome shots under Kevin’s guidance. Kevin’s winning personality also made the trip a huge success in terms of how we all got on together. Just tops.”
